Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran (born March 10 1949) is an American businesswoman, investor and speaker. She is also a consultant, speaker, syndicated columnist, author, and television personality. The Corcoran Group, an NYC-based real estate brokerage was established by Corcoran. NRT bought it in 2001 for $66 million. Corcoran later left the business. Corcoran is one of ABC's original Shark investors has been part of each episode of Shark Tank. Since February of 2020, she has made 53 deals for the show, with the most significant being a $350,000 investment to purchase 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran was the second child of 10 children born to an Irish Catholic couple of working class living in Edgewater, New Jersey. Florence Corcoran was Florence's mother and was a homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. became her father throughout Corcoran's childhood. The family depended on food delivery services for free from the local grocer. Corcoran remembers her father as a man who occasionally was a drinker and treated her mother with disrespect and condescension, particularly when he was drinking. Corcoran had difficulty in school, and discovered later she was dyslexic. Corcoran was educated at a Catholic elementary and then started high school in Englewood at St. Cecilia High School. After failing several courses in her freshman year, Corcoran transferred to Leonia High School in Leonia, where she graduated as a D student.
